Professor Frances Arnold from Caltech was the winner of this year’s prestigious Millennium Technology Prize awarded by Technology Academy Finland. At the ceremony in Helsinki I was struck by how the evolutionary approach she pioneered has momentous and far-reaching applications not only in biology and chemistry, but in all areas of research.
