Garmin Enduro 4 claims 36 days of smartwatch battery, 17x Apple Watch Ultra 4

Same-mode comparison of vendor claims; Gizmodo's 320-hour headline is an activity-mode-with-solar figure, not everyday use.

Gizmodo reports that Garmin's new Enduro 4, priced at $900, promises 320 hours of battery life, which it contrasts with the roughly two days Apple quotes for the Watch Ultra 4. It notes the 320 hours needs an activity mode and sunny conditions.

Garmin's own spec page puts the 320 hours in activity mode (extended battery) with solar, about 13 days. For plain smartwatch use it lists up to 36 days, or 90 with solar. Apple's page says up to 50 hours of normal use, so on vendor claims the gap is about 17 to 1, not the roughly 6 to 1 that 320 hours versus 50 implies.

The numbers are not equal tests: the Enduro 4 uses a memory-in-pixel display, while the Apple, Samsung and Google watches use brighter OLED-type screens. Independent runtime tests are the missing piece; orders for the Enduro 4 open on 9 October.

Data, method and caveats
  • All figures are vendors' own "up to" claims, each under its own test. Apple tested preproduction Ultra 4 units with a fixed script (two 60-minute workouts, notifications, sleep tracking) over 50 hours; Samsung used internal lab tests of typical use; Google states default settings with always-on display on.
  • Garmin and Coros state days for smartwatch or daily-use mode without publishing the display setting on the pages read; Garmin's solar figures assume 3 hours a day outdoors at 50,000 lux. The Enduro 4 uses a memory-in-pixel display; the Apple, Samsung and Google watches use OLED-type screens.
  • Hours were converted to days by dividing by 24 (Apple 50 h = 2.1 days, Samsung 60 h = 2.5, Pixel 40 h = 1.7). Low-power modes are excluded: Apple 84 h, Pixel 72 h, Samsung 100 h.
  • Apple Watch Ultra 3 is not charted: Apple's Ultra 3 spec page no longer carried battery figures, and Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 lists the same 80 h and 60 h as the 2025 model. Garmin's Enduro 4 page reads "available to order October 9th", so no retail units have been tested.
  • The fenix 9 Pro has several variants; the AMOLED 51 mm model (010-04337-00) is used. The solar 51 mm version lists 30 days (57 with solar).
